With many of the teams having clinched, there is yet a smattering of teams who might pull out an upset and get in before a team that is currently seeded. I say that the Rangers have the best chance of ousting the Flyers before the post-season even begins, given their two games versus Philly. I'd hate to see the Avalanche choke and miss the playoffs after such a surprise season, but these things happen, and the Flames--obviously preferred, as they play in CANADA--could pull it off.
As for the playoffs themselves...It's hard to pick specifics at this point, as the matchups are anything but etched in stone. That said, I like Detroit to beat their 1st round opponent, San Jose to choke yet again--this time due to Thorton AND Nabokov--Nashville and Vancouver to advance depending on their opponents in the West as well. Obviously, if Nashville plays Detroit, I'll take Detroit. In the East, I see the Caps & Pens going on to round 2. My Habs' chances all depend on their opponent. I think we might finally beat the Brodeur blues this year, believe it or not, due to Halak outplaying Marty in a seven gamer. Should we play the Sabres though, I think we're out quick. I doubt we'll beat the Pens either, but Fleury has been suspect this year, with Halak anything but--al assuming we make it, of course.
I think Boston, Philly and the Sens are all victims just waiting to be taken to the proverbial cleaners.
I'll revise my estimates when all the matchups are decided, and pick a Cup winner at that time. |
