Alright. Let's get the ball rolling for the second round:

Detroit over San Jose in 7

Chicago over Vancouver in 7

Montreal over Pittsburgh in 7 (a very biased prediction, lol)

Boston over Philadelphia in 6

While I am not going to make it official just yet, I like Buffalo. They have a lot of the right tools to take Stanley out for some Wings.

That said, I am always perplexed by the shock that a team comes out to play. So far the headline "Senators show some fight against the Pens" takes the cake. Like the Sens are supposed to lay down and die or something.

Newsflash, every team in the playoffs, no matter how slim, has a shot and wants it just as bad as the next team.

So while my heart will forever say "Go Habs Go" and my brain says "Why do I even think they have a shot?" I refer to the above.

The Bleu Blanc et Rouge aren't done until they lose a 4th game in a series.

I am not an expert/insider. Just breaking it down and making a guess

Eastern Conference

Washington over Montreal in six
New Jersey over Philadelphia in seven
Buffalo over Boston in six
Pittsburgh over Ottawa in five

Western Conference

San Jose over Colorado in five
Chicago over Nashville in four
Vancouver over Los Angeles in four
Phoenix over Detroit in seven

NOTES: These are objective predictions. Subjectively, I'm rooting for my Habs. Part of me hopes I'm wrong about Washington/Montreal. The only way the Habs could win is if Halak stands on his head and the defense actually plays defense. The Habs would also have to take advantage of Theodore, who can be shaky at times...Looks like I'm a little more conservative with the East than I am with the West...Phoenix has crazy momentum, but getting past the Red Wings won't be easy...San Jose, don't let me down...Little worried about Chicago's goaltending, but I don't think it will hurt them.
Enjoy!

Chicago vs. Buffalo in the final

It would be a close series. Buffalo in 7. Comes down to goaltending and Miller will keep his MVP season going.

I'll have specific round 1 predicitions soon.

I am going to say that the Penguins are going to win the Stanley Cup once again.

I say Vancouver and Pittsburgh for the final. Or maybe Phoenix .. I just have not seen Phoenix play enough to know how good they are.

But .. repeat for Pittsburgh !!

With many of the teams having clinched, there is yet a smattering of teams who might pull out an upset and get in before a team that is currently seeded.  I say that the Rangers have the best chance of ousting the Flyers before the post-season even begins, given their two games versus Philly.  I'd hate to see the Avalanche choke and miss the playoffs after such a surprise season, but these things happen, and the Flames--obviously preferred, as they play in CANADA--could pull it off.

As for the playoffs themselves...It's hard to pick specifics at this point, as the matchups are anything but etched in stone.  That said, I like Detroit to beat their 1st round opponent, San Jose to choke yet again--this time due to Thorton AND Nabokov--Nashville and Vancouver to advance depending on their opponents in the West as well.  Obviously, if Nashville plays Detroit, I'll take Detroit.  In the East, I see the Caps & Pens going on to round 2.  My Habs' chances all depend on their opponent.  I think we might finally beat the Brodeur blues this year, believe it or not, due to Halak outplaying Marty in a seven gamer.  Should we play the Sabres though, I think we're out quick.  I doubt we'll beat the Pens either, but Fleury has been suspect this year, with Halak anything but--al assuming we make it, of course.

I think Boston, Philly and the Sens are all victims just waiting to be taken to the proverbial cleaners.

I'll revise my estimates when all the matchups are decided, and pick a Cup winner at that time.

The race is coming down to the wire and it looks like the brackets are almost set. Who's your team? Who do you think will be the dark horse to look out for? Who's gonna be hittin' the golf course earlier than most thought? Will the Sharks prove their worth? Answer all these questions and more right here!
